Men Ate Angels' Food

Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven, Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven. Men ate angels' food; He sent them food to the full.

Psalm 78:23–25 (NKJV)

God did not withhold the inventory of heaven from His people. He fed them with the best, with food that did not belong to the earth, which only a Spirit could supply, demonstrating His ability to provide for His people without any physical aid. He does not need the world, the world's system, to take care of you.

I received these words during prayer: "And they ate angels' food." After praying I searched the Scriptures and meditated on what the Lord was communicating to me, and I share it here.

The Lord brought Israel into Canaan, but by way of the wilderness, and He later told them that it was to test their hearts, their loyalty and their faithfulness to Him. He let them thirst and hunger to test whether they would trust God. What happened in their experience is no different from what we go through in our walk with God; theirs is simply a pattern from which we can learn. The Lord delights in being the One responsible for us, and our faith and trust in Him are what enable Him to be so.

Sometimes He withholds from us, not because He does not want to give, but in order to expose our hearts. From the scripture above we learn that there is a path, a system God uses to provide for His people, which is independent of any worldly system we know. That system is still available to us today, every day.

He gave men angels' food. He took what belonged to angels and gave it to men, and in this He is telling us something profound: He loves you, and He does not mind giving you what belongs to heaven. Angels do not possess only food, and heaven does not have only bread; there is much in heaven that can become physically and materially ours. Just as the manna materialised for Israel, the Lord can cause many other heavenly things to materialise for us.

Generations later, the true Bread materialised in Israel: He became flesh. That which belonged in the heavens came and lived among men, because God loved the world, and He made provision to satisfy the demands of sin once and for all. In the same way that the Bread from heaven, the Word of God, materialised, everything else from heaven will materialise for you. Believe His Word. Believe His promises. Believe in Him, when everything else tells you otherwise. Believe that He is able. Remember that He fed men angels' food.
