Conquering Giants
There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

The term "giants" has never been a positive one. It comes from the Hebrew word nephilim, the hybrid creations of the fallen angels when they had sexual relations with the daughters of men and with the beasts of creation. Satan did this in order to corrupt the human race and to hinder the purposes of God from prevailing in the earth. It reveals a truth about the workings of Satan that I believe many of us have not yet realised, which we will discuss shortly.
These nephilim destroyed mankind in more ways than one. Among many other things they ate men, and taught them all manner of sorceries, evils and idolatries, all to corrupt the earth and provoke the Lord. As a result, God destroyed the whole earth, including these giants. Their spirits, however, remained in the earth, but that is a story for another day.
Our opening scripture tells us that giants existed even after the destruction of the earth. God had already destroyed all the giants and stopped this angelic activity, and so they came back another way: through genetics and satanic sorcery. In Genesis 10 the Scripture says that Nimrod began to be a mighty one, and I understand this as a transformation from a human being into a nephil, a gibbor. This shows that, by the permission of God (not His will), Satan could continue his work of hybridising humans and creation. Jesus Himself said that the last days would be like the days of Noah. So although fallen angels could no longer have physical intercourse with creation, giants of every kind could still be created by Satan, and sure enough, he still creates them.
Moses fought giants, Joshua fought giants, David fought giants, David's mighty men fought giants, Jesus fought giants; and, guess what, if we are going to see the purposes of God prevail in our lives, we will have to fight giants too.
Giants are not merely tall, strong beings. They are satanic seeds given expression through human conduits, satanic operations that corrupt and hinder God's work and purpose in our lives, and every human being has faced them in one form or another. Giants can be strongholds, financial bondage, addictions, barrenness, diseases and sicknesses, unnatural deaths, the inability to marry and so on: anything of a spiritual nature that has a physical expression.
But there is great news: all the men I have mentioned destroyed every giant they ever encountered. They prevailed because they were in covenant with God, bore the name of the Lord and followed His voice. You too can conquer the giants in your life. The power of Jesus can destroy, and has destroyed, every giant, as Goliath fell before David. This can be your testimony too.
When you study these giant-killers in the Bible, one common thread runs through all of them, the bedrock of their success. It was the Lord's backing, yes, but something activated it: they had the audacity, the courage, boldness and valour, to face these giants. They did not hide, and they were not intimidated by the giants' stature and seemingly strong presence. This virtue is so paramount to conquering giants that if you do not possess it, they may remain indefinitely.
Satan likes to appear to be what he is not; he likes to hide his true nature. The Scripture says that when the nations see him, they will be astonished and say, "Is this the man who made the earth tremble?" He is not as frightening as he looks, nor as powerful as he disguises himself to be, and neither are these giants in your life.
You are a child of God. The name of Jesus is named upon you, and the Holy Spirit lives in you. You are a conqueror by the nature of God within you. Have the audacity to face your giants, and conquer them. It is your heritage.
