Following the Spirit

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Romans 8:14 (NKJV)

Learning to follow the voice of the Holy Spirit is a great asset to your destiny, and worth investing yourself in. Many in Christianity do not realise how indispensable the Spirit is to the life, growth and destiny of the Christian, and so they spend most of their Christian lives either ignoring Him or altogether ignorant of Him. It is the tragedy of the times.

This would have been abhorrent to the early Church, which depended entirely on the Spirit to carry out its missions and its daily living. The Lord Himself would look upon the modern Church with dismay today: having everything, yet lacking the most important element of all, the Spirit.

Jesus spent almost ninety-three percent of His life waiting for the Spirit to be poured upon Him. He was determined to do nothing for God without the Spirit. This clearly shows how great the need for the Holy Spirit is if the objectives of God are to be met. He had been a carpenter, and carpentry is work that can be done without the Spirit, but if a man is going to do anything for God, he dare not do it without the Spirit. I would not be surprised if much of modern Christianity has contracted a spiritual leprosy. Woe to us if we think we can function in Christianity without Him; we are of all men most deluded if we think so.

The creation is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God. These sons are those who have learnt to follow the Spirit wherever He leads, who have learnt to discern and obey His voice, and who have determined to do nothing without Him. In an age when Christianity idolises and follows men, determine to distinguish yourself by seeking out the ministry and work of the Spirit in your life. Cooperate with Him, and hear what He has to say concerning your life. Men and women of the Spirit are rare in our generation. May you be counted among them.
