The Laws of the Spirit
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
Romans 3:27 (NKJV)
You pray one day and your prayers are answered, and the next day you pray for something else and nothing happens. You pray for one sick person and he is instantly healed, and you pray for another and nothing happens. Many people ask themselves why, but we seldom seek the answer in the Scriptures.
The Word of God has the answer to every question and the solution to every problem. These experiences have been a mystery to most of us, and yet we simply let them be.
Different laws govern different natural orders. The law of gravity, for instance, describes a force that pulls all things towards the centre of the earth, which we call the gravitational pull. Yet some creatures seem unaffected by this law: most species of bird glide swiftly and effortlessly through the air, as though gravity did not exist. But let a man try to fly from a high skyscraper, and the headlines will follow: "Man commits suicide." Human beings are not naturally designed to fly, and he would be working against the very law that holds everything in place.
If one law keeps everything down, and yet some species are not affected by it, then clearly another law is at work that helps these birds soar high. I suppose this is what the Wright brothers discovered: that it is actually possible to fly if we learn to cooperate with the law of lift.
It is the same in the realm of the Spirit. There are laws in the Spirit designed to help us function better, and the laws of the Spirit are greater than all natural laws. All laws, both natural and spiritual, are governed by God and His Word. The Word of God created every law, and everyone who would live in this world according to God's standards must follow these laws.
This is why Christians seem to struggle in the Kingdom of God: they have not yet discovered the laws that govern life. One law is essential in the Kingdom, the law of faith. Without it, not only can we not please God, but He is unable to do anything for us or through us. This is the law that made Abraham great and honoured by God through the ages; the law of faith governs our whole Christian walk.
There are, of course, other laws that govern different aspects of life in the Kingdom: to name a few, the laws of wealth, the laws governing the gifts of the Spirit, the laws of prayer, the laws of Kingdom economics, the laws of healing and health, and the laws of wisdom. All these laws must be studied thoroughly if we are to receive the best of the blessings of the Kingdom of God.
We have an inheritance that we have not yet committed ourselves to walk into. Let us receive light and walk in the light.
