Transcendence: A Life Beyond the Natural

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Transcendence is a very interesting word. It describes an experience or existence beyond the plane of the physical, a realm beyond the perceptions of the senses, and it suggests that there are mental and spiritual states beyond our physical plane. The Apostle Paul alluded to transcendence when he admonished us to set our gaze on things unseen, because of their eternal properties.

While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NKJV)

The Lord Jesus put it this way:

And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world."

John 8:23 (NKJV)

He was a transcendent Being, the only human being who has known the experience of living outside the dimensions of space and time. It is said of Him, while He walked on earth:

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

John 1:18 (NKJV)

He was constantly in heaven as He walked on earth; He was as present in heaven as He was on earth. The Bible suggests that in some spiritual way He never left His place in heaven, even though He actually did leave it. Paradoxical as it may sound, that is what the Scriptures attest: He lived in a perpetual state of transcendence. He was not bound by the limits of physical law; He overruled even the laws of the quantum world. He proved that man could live in two worlds, in multiple dimensions. He was the second Adam, the Lord from heaven, the first prototype of the perfect human being.

I always think of transcendence in connection with the complete transformation of the human being, the perfected qualities of spirit, soul and body in the whole make-up of man. Is it possible, attainable, expressible? From my study of the Scriptures, I say emphatically and without doubt: yes. It is our predestination to be transcendent beings, the perfect species, the new creation. It is an eternal promise, and one that must and will be fulfilled by the glorious Church.

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

This book is the expression of a vision, of a dream and of a burning desire that has been in our Father's heart from before the foundation of the world.

Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

2 Timothy 1:9–10 (NKJV)

The desire is to see a race of beings called the sons of God rise, who will bear His image to the whole created realm; to see the Right Hand of God and His counterpart, the glorious Church, merge as one. All heaven awaits that day, brothers and sisters. It is the grand event of the universe: the great wedding of the Lamb of God and His glorified and perfected Bride.

The first Adam failed more than six millennia ago, but the second and last Adam succeeded, and for more than two thousand years His Spirit has been working tirelessly to fulfil the magnificent vision. The end of the age is at the door, and there has never been a time when the message of the glorious Church needed to be heralded as it does now. The whole Church must awaken to this, and now. The true Church must rise; the sons of God must rise; the Bride must rise. This is why the Spirit has burdened me for years to write this book, an epistle for the glorious Church. It is my prayer that as you read these pages, your whole life will find new meaning in the eternal plan of God, and that you will ultimately reach a state of transcendence by the power of God's Spirit. His Word is reality.
