Trust in the Lord
Thus says the Lord: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited."
Jeremiah 17:5–6 (NKJV)
It is very apparent that many believers display a lack of trust in the Lord, especially in trying times, and this I find to be the major reason behind prayerlessness in many lives. The hearts of many fail for fear when things take unexpected turns. You see, trust in the Lord is the conduit for the manifestation of the power of God. It is this sincere and unwavering trust that anchors the soul in the face of trying times and moves the hand of God.
That is why I am led to write to you this evening, to remind you that the Lord is faithful and does not forget to take care of His own. When everything in the world falls apart, the Lord can keep you. Remember that the ark which saved the eight was a symbol of faith, and it was that faith and trust in God that preserved a posterity.
It is a curse not to put your trust entirely in the Lord. If you are acquainted with King Asa, you will find that all went well with him and his kingdom as long as he trusted in the Lord; but when he began trusting in systems, and gave priority to seeking help from men rather than from God, the Lord sent a sickness that led to his death. This ought to be a lesson to all who trust in anything or anyone above the Lord: your lives will be plagued with troubles. Could this be the reason some encounter trouble after trouble in life? Change the trajectory of your life; trust in the Lord. Then prayer will flow like a river, and worship and praise will be a continuous joy.
Ponder the opening scripture and you will realise its implications: your life will be full of curses if you put your trust in man and not in the Lord. Trust therefore determines what flows into your life, curses or blessings. If you want blessings, trust in the Lord is a prerequisite.
A lack of trust in God will sway your heart away from Him, especially in tough times. Some of you have departed from the Lord in your hearts, and some are about to, not by any open rebellion, but by not trusting in the Lord and trusting instead in the systems of men, the arm of flesh.
Some are inconsistent in church attendance because their hearts trust in other things, while others abandon times of prayer and supplication to chase after the deceitfulness of riches and false securities. People are chasing shadows, and yet the secret to blessing has been given. They cry and say they are struggling, but how much of their trust is in the Lord? If you want to secure a great future in God, whatever you are facing today, the way of trust is the surest way. Trust the Lord, beloved.
