Yielding to the Spirit

You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, And did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, And gave them water for their thirst.

The Holy Spirit is a divine Person, a distinct member of the Godhead. He is the Person of the Godhead who has no form of His own, but takes the form of the one He indwells. He therefore has no discernible form; in the natural sense He cannot be seen, nor related to through the senses. He is Spirit, pneuma, wind, and like the wind He cannot be seen, but the impact of His presence can be experienced.

The manifestations of the Spirit are His way of making His presence known and His power felt, and through those manifestations we can discern His presence in a place or a person.

God is omnipresent, yet for all His omnipresence His presence is not manifested everywhere. When He is manifest it will be known, for there will be notable signs, demonstrations of His power. Every man, generally speaking, has a measure of the presence of God, or rather of the consciousness of His presence, but it is the manifestation of the Spirit in one's life that makes the difference.

Many Christians are without power, and seemingly without the operations of grace, because they have not allowed the Spirit to manifest Himself in them; they have not yet learnt the secret.

The secret to having the Spirit manifest and operate in our lives lies in one word, a word so simple, yet with the potential to remove every human limitation from the one who makes it the experience of his life: yielding. Yielding to the Spirit means casting oneself upon Him; it is the giving over, the surrender, of one's will to the sway of the Lord. Only when we learn to yield ourselves to Him will we experience His manifestations in our lives, the unending flow of His rivers.
